Audion 3 is free.
The excellent MP3 player/encoder for the Mac, Audion, has been ‘retired from active development’ and is now free. I’ve always stayed away from iTunes — it’s a bit of a CPU hog and that’s not a good thing if you’re on batteries. Using Audion, for example, might free up a couple of CPU cycles to your browser, where you would be able to read the rather moving story of the rise and retirement of Audion.
