Foxy extensions.

With great power comes great responsibility. With Firefox, great power comes with having great extensions. Here are some excellent add-ons to what essentially is a quite spartan browser.

  • Copy Image : Now you can right click on an image and “Copy Image” to your clipboard and paste into your programs. Not really needed for the Mac version of FF (since you can drag and drop images).
  • Bookmarks Synchronizer [FF 1.0 version] : This was the real reason why I ditched Safari on a day-to-day basis on my Mac — with this brilliant extension, I easily sync my bookmarks between The Office Computer and my Mac, Windows and Fedora machines at home.
  • Web Developer Extension : An outstanding tool, inspired by the pnhtoolbar. If you don’t use this, it could only be because you don’t use FF at all, or don’t work on the web for a living, or you are a feckless, bootless standards incompliant thug. Or maybe you use another tool.
  • Colorzilla : I’m not a big fan of something-zilla names, but this tool’s usefulness – it allows you pick out any colour used on a site – far outweighs my trepidation of its name.
  • Zoomy : This very imaginatively named extension lets you add buttons on your toolbar to ‘zoom in and zoom out’ — actually it’s mouse button for the text zoom feature, which is handy when you’re surfing in (the lazy, un-nerdly, foppish non-keyboard) mouse-only mode.
  • 708090-lite theme : This is not quite an extension but a theme. And it’s not the greatest theme in the world for FF but the least annoying one that stays out of the way. Not as good as (the rather outdated) Le Breeze, but its a nice minimal alternative.
