What about “the ball is round”?
Saw this top 10 list of the biggest clichés in (presumably British) football. After another frustrating performance today (where Liverpool couldn’t hit a barn door or find the back of the net, no less), I have serious doubts about their, you know, bouncebackability. Since when that ever became a real word, I really don’t know, but it’s there and sounds stupid and yet, it says something which otherwise would have been said using about 4 separate words.
