Newspapers, journalism, blogs and RSS.

The venerable mr brown points to the The Observer Blog as an example of a newspaper that “gets it” with blogs. Of note is The Observer’s Folksonomic Zeitgeist, which is similar in theme, spirit and style to Technorati’s Tags.

On a related issue, news sites, like The Guardian, The New York Times & even CNET, make significant revenue off ad space on their websites but their RSS feeds have so far remained free and ad-free. Ads (in various forms and in varying degrees) within RSS feeds are already in place at some news sites. There is really something perverse about having ads in a news feed, which is just content that has cruft intentionally stripped off. Before we even realise it, our news aggregator of choice might become the next battleground for consumer eyeballs and advertising revenue.
