A febrile response.

Pyrexia is considered to be a symptom of a disorder rather than a disease in itself. It is believed that infectious disease, injury to the body tissues, and other conditions that cause pyrexia, somehow set off a disturbance in the functioning of the hypothalamus, the centre of temperature control in the body. The effects of pyrexia on the body are body aches, exhaustion, and sometimes a depletion of body fluids through excessive perspiration. Treatment includes increasing fluid intake and administering antipyretics. Classified as a positive feedback mechanism of the body, pyrexia is more commonly known as the fever.
