Pre-emptive strike.
Joen (and his band of merry commenters) discuss essential extensions for Firefox 1.0. But no one seems to have mentioned the weapon of mass JavaScript destruction that is the NoScript extension. It aggressively blocks all Javascript on any page unless you tell it not to. Highly recommended for the highly paranoid.
