Canning the spam.

I have gone through a variety of email clients over the years, including Netscape Communicator, Mozilla Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook Express and recently Outlook. I have also gone through many anti-spam clients, like the built-in ones in Apple Mail and Thunderbird (which can be woefully inadequate), SpamAssassin (very effective but way, way too complex) & Spamihilator (very good, free & regularly updated).

And then I tried out Cloudmark Desktop for Outlook…
The Cloudmark toolbar within Outlook
… and I have to say it has been just superb. In three days, it missed only 1 spam email out of a total of 543 — that’s a 99.8% success rate which I have never experienced so soon after installing a spam filter. No training, no Bayesian techniques, no bollocks: it just works. I am so completely sold, even though I have to pay US$40 a year for the service. And the software is so easy to use, you’d think it was a Mac application but it is only available for Outlook and Outlook Express for Windows.

The last time I was this excited over email was way back in 1995 when I got my first email address!
