“Graphic grease.” was penned precisely on 5 February, 2006 05:28 PM, which happened to be a Sunday. but you know what? dullneon.com's random notes has now moved to a new location.
Two weeks ago, the cooling fan on my 6 month old NVIDIA-powered graphics card suddenly went amok and started making noise like it was a vacuum cleaner. I hoped it would just go away, but it didn’t. Without wanting to spend S$20 on a new cooler to replace the fan on what essentially was a S$100 low end video card, I decided to try something decidedly different. I wanted to use sewing machine oil to try and ‘lube’ the fan, but alas, there was none within easy reach.
So I had to resort to 2 drops of cooking oil. It’s been 5 hours now and so far, everything’s quiet and back to normal. But if anything goes wrong, I just hope the entire computer doesn’t, you know, get cooked.
this was published on 5 February in the year 2006, which was a Sunday. anyway, all this is old and archived. everything has been now been moved, so head on down to the revamped almost daily random notes (unless of course you like this old stuff too much to part with it).
