Sweet dreams are made of DOS.
For those of you who use Microsoft Windows, try this: Fire up Windows Explorer, navigate to any arbitrary directory of your choice, right-click in this directory and try to create a new file named “con.txt” or “nul.txt” (without the quotes, of course).
Windows will never let you create a file called con.txt or nul.txt and the reason why can be traced back to the days of MS-DOS 1.0. Almost like DNA that’s been passed down to the next generation…
I really wish I had kept the diskettes and manuals from my first operating system, which was MS-DOS 3.3. Just seeing the packaging artwork of MS-DOS 6.22 almost completely overwhelms me with nostalgia (and flashbacks).
