Sync your Windows Smartphone with Thunderbird (BirdieSync Part II).

As expected, Microsoft Outlook suddenly started screwing up big-time on me last night and I took this chance to have a second go at BirdieSync in tandem with Thunderbird and Lightning. This time, I did something I didn’t do the first time around a few months ago — I managed to properly unlock my Windows Smartphone.

And now, BirdieSync works like a charm. But now BirdieSync costs money when it didn’t before, which is a bummer. It is slightly irritating to have to pay for software that syncs between my phone’s software (which came bundled at no cost when I purchased the phone) and my email client which I didn’t pay a single cent for.

Having said that, it costs about €20 and for software that works well and fills what is probably a small niche, it’s probably worth it. Plus, it lets me almost completely discard Outlook from my computer and that’s worth paying for.

(Actually, there is a free alternative called FinchSync but the rather complex looking install scared me. )

[Update on 27/03/06 : A little birdy told me that BirdieSync was never free and was always shareware. My bad for assuming otherwise.]
