Can a number be copyrighted?

The movie industry is suing a guy for publishing the hexadecimal number 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0 on his website. The movie industry people (like the music guys) really seem to have a knack for pissing people off online.
