It seems I am not the only one who Googles my symptoms before heading to the doctor. Google Flu Trends tracks search terms to predict when the flu will hit certain areas within the United States — an epidemic indicator, if you like. While it’s a good idea and could be extended to pseudo-prediction of epidemics and pandemics, this kind of ’searchsourcing’ will only be useful if Google remains insanely popular.

Another awesome, (relatively) high resolution image gallery on Boston.com that details the big ball of fire that is our Sun (which is having a bit of a rest now apparently).

A very interesting and enthusiastic talk from Brian “Rock Star” Cox, though you I he had gone more in-depth on some the things he talked about. But, on a completely different tangent, reading some of the comments made me remember, rather sadly, that not everyone can reconcile religion with science.

You’ve got spin the eggs to find out. A hard-boiled egg will spin freely (almost like a top) since the inside is also solid. A raw egg, on the other hand, will not spin that well since the inside is all runny and gooey.

How come no one in real life ever told me this? How come I had to find out about this on the interweb? It’s quite disturbing when you find simple, plausible fixes to everyday things online.
Too bad I only know how to design stuff for the web and not bugs that dump out petroleum after a meal.
Next on the list should be bugs that consume plastic and breathe in carbon monoxide and shit out pretty flowers and tasty marshmallows.

Quantum mechanics is a fascinating subject, but this was exactly the kind of drab, boring videos that were shown in class that would put you to sleep in an atomic instant. This video is highly recommended viewing if you have trouble sleeping.

Stunning pictures from the Phoenix lander — Mars seems like a peaceful hang-out for a recluse but the question still remains unanswered.
