Welcome to random notes, a semi-regular, almost-daily and completely platitudinous collection of text, pixels, links and other finds from the web

A good idea and a pretty good (though simplistic) execution

Seeeeeee ittttttt onnnnn www.yooouuutuuube.com

Weirdly brilliant, yooouuutuuube.com takes a YouTube video and cuts it all up into some bizarre lomo action sampler-like strips. I used the Doves‘ excellent Black and White Towns video to try it out but I think it’d probably work better with psychelic or cheesy 80s videos.

It seems now Google will crawl Flash content really soon.

Let’s just sit back and watch the spammers and scammers try and bust out new ways to con Googlebot.

Keep getting “ActionScript 2.0 class scripts may only define class or interface constructs” errors in Flash?

Here’s how you fix the damn problem!

A fake Windows environment is simulated to disguise your leisure reading
To promote the New Zealand Book Council’s efforts to encourage reading, Colenso BBDO created the Read At Work site. It’s a mock Windows desktop filled with books packaged as ‘fake’ Powerpoint documents to encourage people to read at their workplace without getting caught. Though it feels a bit scammy*, it’s a nice idea which is executed well.

* Hey, I live in Scam City so I am allowed to be skeptical

Nothing malicious — just ‘haha’ funny. Just press the “Esc” key to get out.

That was great, wasn’t it?

Adobe Flash Player icon
Flash is bad. Every Flash player software that was ever released, up to the current version 9.0.124.0, is affected.

You could uninstall it but you won’t be able to see any of the cool shit that is linked at the FWA. Actually, you wouldn’t be able to see the FWA site itself!

Hello

Most folks who visit random notes seem to hang around for about 9.241 minutes on average.

My name is and I just learned that the hash sign is also known as an octothorp. It's exactly this kind of unnecessary information works its way into conversations that scares people away from me. Not that I am really complaining though…

Random Ho-Hum

“…so let it go, and so fade away…”
