The Chinese New Year holidays turned out to be a five day long weekend of free television. In between the family visiting, we watched as many movies as we could on cable TV which included…

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey
Except for the film stock, it is quite hard to date what is probably one of the greatest cinematic experiences of all time.
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine
First time I caught this – not bad, but not that great. I was glad I didn’t spend the $8 at the movies when it first came out.
  • Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
My third least-favourite Potter movie (only the first two rank below this for me) which is possibly saved only by Voldemort’s first appearance in full form.
  • Sherlock Holmes
This 2009 remake by Guy Ritchie is always worth watching again and again. Great cast, beautiful sets and excellent art direction.
  • Zombieland
This has to be the second funniest movie within the Zombie comedy genre (the funniest being Shaun of The Dead). Bill Murray’s cameo was just hilarious.
  • Jacob’s Ladder
Disturbing, nut-job of a movie starring a pretty young Tim Robbins.
  • Did You Hear About the Morgans?
Light comedy where Hugh Grant does that sequence of weird faces and clipped delivery which he does in every movie he is in.
  • Kuffs
I just watched this to try and catch more of Milla Jovovich wearing very little. A test of endurance when you have to put up with Christian Slater most of the time.
  • Hunting and Gathering (Ensemble, c’est tout)
Cute French movie starring the cute French actress Audrey Tautou. Predictable happy-ever-after ending but I’ll watch anything with Audrey Tautou.

A thoroughly entertaining weekend, thanks to StarHub. And when I thought it couldn’t get better, Liverpool beat Chelsea for three hard-earned points at Stamford Bridge. Best of luck and I wish you well when not playing us, but you should have stayed at the bigger club, Fernando.
